Meet Stephanie (who also runs fabric business Elephant in my Handbag) and Jo of Apple Ducks: they are passionate about local craft and have set up Handmade With Love to showcase the best they can find in Kent and Sussex. These ladies now have 200 talented local makers on their books, ensuring a great mix of stallholders at their events and are now expanding westward to Horsham, Sussex.
I attended their first Apple Ducks taster sewing workshop at the Kent Adult Education centre on Monson Road last week, making felt Christmas decorations with the very creative Tracy Usher, who had just finished putting the finishing touches on Fortnum and Mason's Christmas window display in London. Nineteen of us gathered in room 203 to sew, chat and we broke for tea and cake at Netty's Café on the ground floor. The lovely listed building on Monson Road was quite a revelation to me. I've wandered past it so many times, dropped magazines in the main entrance, but never really had a good look around. The café is open to all, it's a great space, with a changing display of art work by staff and pupils at the centre. All cakes are baked on the premises (the coffee and walnut cake was delicious).
Locally, Handmade With Love takes place on Saturday 16th November at Trinity Theatre in Tunbridge Wells.
