Acorns are falling out of the sky and my neighbour has some lovely shiny conkers on her driveway, which I can't help picking up and putting in my pocket. It's childish, I know. I used to collect them by the sack load when I was a child and leave the ones I didn't use for playing conkers in a plastic bag until they moulded away. The bees are still busy in the non-native Himalayan Balsam that grows at the bottom of the garden and I spotted this tiny pretty orange butterfly yesterday on my wanderings. The crab apples are prolific, as was the blossom earlier in the year and I may well make some crab apple jelly for the store cupboard.
